Never Store Your Baked Potatoes in Foil

Image
As an enjoyer of large, elaborate steak dinners, I often find myself with a partially eaten, leftover baked potato. Perhaps you’ve experienced this as well. It’s not a bad thing—you can use the leftovers to make  really good breakfast potatoes —but you should take a small amount of care when storing them. If you are in the habit of wrapping your potatoes in foil when you bake them (I usually leave them naked for a crisper skin), be sure to remove that foil as soon as your spuds come out of the oven. Foil decreases the amount of oxygen the potato sees, and a lack of oxygen can lead to botulism, which no one wants. According to  FoodSafetyNews.com , cooked potatoes are a  Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) food , a category of foods that must be stored with care: Foods in this category are prone to bacteria growth for several reasons: They are moist, contain protein and have a neutral or slightly acidic pH. This combo lends itself to the growth of microor...

How to Check the Battery Health on All Your Apple Devices

Image
If you’re like me, you relentlessly charge your devices even  if  doing so might be hurting the battery over the long-term. “This is the way,” I think to myself as I look over at the AirPods Pro charging case that I’ve left plugged in for the last three weeks. One of the best forms of preventative maintenance you can easily carry out for any Apple device is to periodically check their battery health. I don’t mean the number in the upper-right corner of your screen that shows you how much juice you have left as a percentage. I mean the slightly more-buried setting that gives you a clue about how your battery is faring overall. While there’s not much you can do if your battery is awful, save for getting a new one, at least you’ll have a clue that your device is approaching “ancient” status  or  that your charging habits might be preventing you from sucking as much life out of your device as you can. With luck, you’ll notice a dying battery while your device is s...

Nike Viotech AM90 Smoothie Bowl – Kicks & Grub

Image
You can find inspiration for making healthier choices just about anywhere.  I love sneakers.  Always have.  Collecting as kid was pretty difficult, but now as an adult I find myself with over 200 pair at a time.  For me, I like a vibrant, brilliant color way, or I like shoes that tell a story. Besides enhancing my own personal style, some shoes also inspire a recipe.  The colors, the patterns, the texture – I’ll see a recipe in my head immediately.  These relaunched version of the Nike Viotech based off the 2002 Nike Dunk version spoke to me right away.  The bold color swatches reminded me of a jar of candy. So, I made a  nature’s candy  smoothie bowl and matched the colors to the ingredients. For the toppings you DO NOT have to be as liberal as me – I only added a lot to exaggerate the color comparison.  Here are the fruits I used to match the colors: mango – YELLOW/GOLD turmeric – YELLOW/GOLD blueberries – BLUE kiwi – GREEN/BL...
